UMENISHIKI GARDEN
AWAJISHIMA - FLORA 2000 INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION

Following my first visit, I was invited back to Japan in April 1999 with instructions to prepare a scheme design for an 'English Herb Garden' to be built at a 'Workshop' at  which Japanese participants could get involved in the building of the garden.

My Clients are Mr, & Mrs. Yamakawa - owners of the Umenishiki Garden at Tanbara and also the Umenishiki Brewery.

My contact in Japan is Mrs. Eiko Todo - President of Todo Planning in Tokyo.
My first visit to Japan was in January 1999 when I was invited to discuss a project at UMENISHIKI GARDEN which is on the Southern Island of Shikoku and in the Ehime prefecture.

My instructions were to prepare a scheme for a garden 3.0m X 1.0m in size.
I believed this to be too small and prepared an alternative and additional design which was 2.0m X 2.0m.

To my surprise, my Clients decided that they would build BOTH gardens at the workshop.

When I returned in April,  I was given a day of preparation for the gardens and during this time I Chos
e the location of the gardens, set them out  and - with the help of two Japanese workers - made a start on the construction.
