AWAJISHIMA - FLORA 2000 INTERNATIONAL GARDENING AND LANDSCAPING EXHIBITION

I was invited by my Clients to design a garden for their exhibit at the FLORA 2000 exhibition which was held on the island of Awaji (Awajishima) between 14 March 2000 and 17 September 2000.

After considerable discussion, I had suggested that an 'English Cottage Garden' should be the theme for the exhibit and this was enthusiastically accepted.

My clients applied for and were allocated a plot within the exhibition site and I prepared some intial sketches to illustrate the possibilities.

The garden was constructed by 'Hankyu Creative' from Tokyo.  They made an excellent job of creating a typical 'English' feel for the garden - particularly the brick pathway.
At the end of the exhibition, the whole garden was dismantled and taken to my Client's Umenishiki Garden to be re-constructed there as a permanent feature.
